FOTD: Rockstar

9 Feb

This song was HOT during my freshman year in college, LMBO! I know the video is awesomely bad, but admit that the music gets you in a “rock” mood. I had forgotten all about this song until I heard it in a Samsung commercial last week. TOO FUNNY! Anyway… let’s talk makuep! Today’s look is pretty simple, I didn’t wanna draw too much attention to my eyes, so I did a simple smoky look that allows the bright pink lipstick to pop.

PRIMER: NYX HD e/s base

BASE: NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk

SHADOW: I applied this dark pewter (metallic finish) from the Wet N Wild Lust palette over my entire lower eyelid. On my crease I used matte dark brown from the Wet N Wild Vanity palette, then I used matte peach e/s (WNW Greed palette) to highlight my brow bone area.

OTHER DETAILS… I used CoverGirl single e/s in Smolder to define my eyebrows & L’Oreal Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black on my eyelashes. I defined my upper lashline & waterline with Wet N Wild cream liner in black.

CHEEKS: Wet N Wild blush in Heather Silk

LIPS: Maybelline Color Sensational Lip Color in Fuchsia Fever + CO Bigelow lip gloss in Pink Mint

FACE: Estee Lauder pressed powder in Deep (05)

I received a friendly reminder that I haven’t been posting FOTDs lately… Sorry guys! The product reviews & acquisitions & Giovanni have kept me pretty busy. Speaking of Giovanni… My hair is day 3 of a twist-out. It looked a ham this particular morning, so I thought it would be a great opportunity to test out the banana clip faux-hawk. No gel on the sides this time, just a little Mane-N-Tail Leave-In conditioner before brushing it back. I excluded the hair in front from the banana clip, to give me a bang. Here’s the side view…

FOTD: Sunshine on a cloudy day

7 Jun

No! I haven’t changed my hair (yet)… these pics were taken about 2 weeks ago. I was on canary yellow extra hard that week. I love this FOTD because it’s a break from the norm; using a light color (yellow) on the center of my eyelid & a darker color (gray) on the tearducts & outer v. It was a PIECE OF CAKE, so I strongly encourage you to try this look!!! 🙂

PRIMER: Coastal Scents Shadow Worx Matte e/s primer

BASE: NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk

SHADOW: I applied Twilight (by Ulta) to the inside & outside of my lower lid. In the center of my eyelid (right over the iris of my eyes) I applied canary yellow mica powder (by Coastal Scents). Then I applied matte camel from my crease to my brow bone (WNW Vanity palette).

OTHER DETAILS… I used CoverGirl single e/s in Smolder to define my eyebrows. I applied L’Oreal Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black to my eyelashes (& curled them). I defined my upper lashline with WetnWild cream eyeliner in black. On my waterline, I used WetNWild eyeliner pencil in black.

FACE: Estee Lauder pressed powder in Deep (05)

CHEEKS: Black Radiance sheer finish blush in Soft Honey (8305B) on the apples of my cheeks

LIPS: Carmex + Estee Lauder lip gloss in Rose

FOTD: Lust vs. Greed

6 Jun

This high-contrast, smoky eye is one of a bajillion possible color combinations from the Wet N Wild Color Icon collection. As the title of this FOTD indicates, today I used the “Lust” & “Greed” palettes. Although I used pale pink from the lust palette on my inner eye, it translates as white, with a pink cast (a cool side effect of using cream eyeshadow as a base for your powdered eyeshadow).

BTW, my coil out is still going strong (Day 5)! I did have to re-coil a few hairs at the nape of my neck last night (that hair is extremely prone to tangling), but I’m gonna let the coil out ride for a few more days. In other news, I miss my big, voluminous curls 😦 *sheds a lonesome tear*

PRIMER: Coastal Scents Shadow Worx Matte e/s primer

BASE: NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk (inner) & Black Bean (outer)

SHADOW: I covered the inner half of my eyelid in matte light pink (Lust).  Then I applied sparkly graphite gray to the outer half of my eye (Lust) & matte black (Greed) to darken the outer v. I applied matte peach to my brow bone (Greed) & used matte light pink to highlight my tearducts & the arches of my eyebrows (Lust).

OTHER DETAILS… I used CoverGirl single e/s in Smolder to define my eyebrows. L’Oreal Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black on my eyelashes. On my waterline I used WetNWild eyeliner pencil in turquoise & teal-colored eyeshadow from the Retro Chic palette (8805) by Black Radiance.

FACE: Estee Lauder pressed powder in Deep (05)

CHEEKS: WetNWild Blush in “Heather Silk” (on the apples of my cheeks)

LIPS: Carmex + “Stop Violence in the Home” lip gloss by The Body Shop

FOTD: the Starry-eyed girl

20 May

This is my version of a blue smoky eye. It’s kinda on the steel blue/ dark gray side with both metallic sheen & glitter particles (yeah, I was doin’ the most). Today I used this sparkly navy blue e/s that I purchased @ Victoria’s Secret one day when I was bra shopping with my besties. I walked past the VS makeup display & I couldn’t leave empty-handed. I’m all about glitter & sparkles, so I was sold on that aspect alone. This e/s however, lacks the staying power of several cheaper brands *WHOMP WHOMP* BTW… my soul is vexed by the fact that you can’t really see the sparkles in these pics (but I promise you it was there)!

My tips for doing a smoky eye are as follows:

  1. Use a dark base (black, blue, gray or purple).
  2. Keep light and/or pastel colors restricted to your tearducts & brow bone.
  3. Keep the color below your crease & use something neutral under your brow (or risk looking like Mimi from the Drew Carey Show… GOOGLE IT!).
  4. Use mascara or false lashes, so that your lashes don’t get lost in the mix.
  5. DO NOT neglect the area under your eye! Put some black, gray or blue eyeliner on your waterline. You can even use a pencil or liner brush to apply e/s under your eyes if you’re going the extra mile!
  6. If you have fallout from all the dark colors you’ve applied to your eyelid, brush it away, then add some concealer + pressed powder under your eye… DARK CIRCLES are no one’s friend!

PRIMER: Coastal Scents Shadow Worx Matte e/s primer

BASE: Cream shadow from the Claire’s 24 palette in Steel blue

SHADOW: On my tearducts I used a matte off white (WNW Vanity). I blended that into Victoria’s Secret Silky Sparkle in “Spin” (a sparkly grayish-blue) on the center of my lower lid, then I used shimmery navy blue from the L’Oreal Studio Secrets Professional Color Smokes in “Cobalt Smokes” to deepen my crease/ outer v. I also used matte off white (WNW Vanity) to highlight my brow bone.

OTHER DETAILS… I used CoverGirl single e/s in Smolder to define my eyebrows. L’Oreal Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black on my eyelashes. And that’s it! I was running late this morning & completely forgot my eyeliner… it looks so naked under my eye 😦

LIPS: Carmex & L’Oreal HIP lip gloss in Inviting

CHEEKS: Ulta single e/s in Sparks in the hollows of my cheeks & Black Radiance sheer finish blush in Soft Honey (8305B) on the apples of my cheeks

FACE: Estee Lauder pressed powder in Deep (05)

  Hold the phone!

What happened here? It looks like I got into a fight & lost, LOL. This e/s didn’t make it past lunch with both a primer & cream base, THAT constitutes EPIC failure in my book… On to the next one!

Celeb Looks: Smoky Blue

19 May

These pics are living proof that blue eyeshadow makes brown eyes pop & face it folks: smoky eyes are just plain sexy. What’s not to love?! There are many ways to achieve a blue smoky eye, these are just a few examples… ENJOY!

Solange is smoking hot in a bluish-gray that extends to her lower lashline & look-at-me lashes! NOTE: When you wear subtle colors on your lips & face, your eyes take center stage!

This look demonstrates a linear gradation of blue to gray, using eyeshadows w/ shimmer finish & a nude lip. BTW, I'm LOVING the contour & highlight on her cheeks!

Beyoncé keeps it simple w/ this monochromatic smoky eye in sapphire blue (matte finish), peachy blush & sheer pink lip gloss.

Tyra looks positively "FEE-US" in this navy smoky eye & bold berry lips! I LOVE IT! BTW, I need these earrings AND this hairdo... LOL

Stay tuned for my interpretation of the smoky blue look…

FOTD: Pin-up Girl

15 May

I endeavored to do a neutral eye with a bold lip… and somehow I ended up on the pin-up girl, retro vibe. I’m really pleased with how the look came out, especially because know nothing about wearing lipstick. Somehow I always feel like a child playing in mommy’s makeup whenever I put some on, so I just avoid it. Ya know? Oh and today was also my 1st time using WetNWild Color Icon palette in Greed… so far I’m lovin’ it!

PRIMER:Coastal Scents Shadow Worx Matte e/s primer

BASE: NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk

SHADOW: On lower lid & browbone I used matte peach from WetNWild Greed palette. I used shimmery brown from the WNW Vanity palette to create depth in my crease & matte black from WNW Greed to deepen the outer v. Oh & of course I’m still using matte camel (also WNW Vanity) on my browbone.

OTHER DETAILS… I used CoverGirl single e/s in Smolder to define my eyebrows. L’Oreal Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black on my eyelashes. I applied WetnWild cream eyeliner in black to my upper lashline using my brand new Ardell Duo Brow Brush… *LOVES IT* I used a pencil brush to apply the shimmery chocolate e/s (WNW Vanity) to my waterline, for subtle definition.

LIPS: WetNWild Mega Last Lip color in Red Velvet (910D)

CHEEKS: Black Radiance sheer finish blush in Soft Honey (8305B)

FACE: Estee Lauder pressed powder in Deep (05)

Moral of the story: don’t be afraid to try something new. You might like it & even if you don’t, it’s just makeup… WASH IT OFF!

FOTD: Twilight @ sunset

1 May
June 2010

If I look a little different in this FOTD, it’s because it was taken almost a year ago (yeah, I’ve been a junkie for a minute). It’s one of my favorites because I love the way the sunlight shines through my living room at sunset & because Twilight (by Ulta) is probably my favorite eyeshadow. It’s a metallic pewtery gray, neither too dark nor too light, so it looks good on a variety of skin tones. If you’d like to try it out, now’s a good time to buy. ALL ULTA BRAND cosmetics, brushes & beauty tools are on sale, BUY ONE GET ONE FREE until May 8th! I LOVE a good sale!!! And in case you’re wondering, I am not being paid to endorse this product, I genuinely like it.

June 2010

Tip of the day: In this look I used black as a base for my shadow & by doing this you can create a more sultry look, even if you’re not using colors that are particularly dark. When used underneath a shimmery or metallic shadow, a black base will enhance sheen… when used in concert with a jewel toned shadow, a black base gives more depth.

PRIMER: Urban Decay e/s primer potion

BASE: NYX Jumbo Pencil in Black Bean

SHADOW: I used Ulta single e/s in Twilight on the inner two-thirds of my lower eyelid, blue from the CoverGirl Tropical Fusion e/s palette to accentuate my crease & outer v & pressed powder (see below) on my upper lid & all the way up to my browbone. After that I went back in & added champagne from the CoverGirl Shimmering Sands trio to highlight my tearducts.

OTHER DETAILS… I used CoverGirl single e/s in Smolder to define my eyebrows. Maybelline Lash Stiletto Mascara in Blackest Black on my eyelashes. I lined my waterline with WetnWild Eyeliner Pencil in Black.

LIPS: Carmex

FACE: L’Oreal True Match pressed powder in Nut Brown (C7)
