M.U.G.’s Review of Shadow Worx e/s primer

14 Sep

I was browsing one of my favorite websites (MakeupGeek), when I came across a product review that I wanna share with you guys…

[Click here to read Bobbie’s full review]

Did Coastal Scents Shadow Worx Matte e/s primer ever crease on me? Sure it did. But ALL *I repeat* all of my e/s primers (including UDPP) have creased at one time or another, b/c there are many factors that play into the longevity of your e/s, which is why I use products over a period of time, to rule out the variables. Possible variables include:

  • Do you have oily eyelids? If so, then this primer may not work for you b/c it has a lotion-y texture. My eyelids are dry, so it worked well for me.
  • Did you have any lotion or moisturizer on your hands or face before applying primer? In my experience, it works best on naked skin, so wash your hands & face first.
  • How long has it been since you washed your face? Again, it works better on a freshly, washed face (within 1 hour).
  • Did you use too much or too little primer? Trial & error will tell you how much is enough.
  • Did you allow the primer time to set before applying e/s? A minute or 2 should do it.
  • Did you use too much cream shadow/base? Too much cream shadow will crease on your lids each & every time, regardless of what primer you’re wearing.

Don’t get it twisted! I’m not saying that Bobbie didn’t test the primers thoroughly before presenting her product review, I’m just giving you food for thought. Every product doesn’t work the same for everybody. You might try a product that I can’t live without & decide that it is complete garbage. There are so many brands & formulas of products that we can all find our niche. I’m just trying to keep things fair & balanced… #AC360Baby! ūüėČ

FOTD: Inspired by Crocus

22 Jun

I don’t have much to say about this one. The beauty of the crocus speaks for itself… ENJOY!

PRIMER: NYX HD e/s base

BASE: NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Milk

SHADOW: I covered my lower eyelid in bright purple (Shany 120 palette), then I used canary yellow mica powder (Coastal Scents) on my tearducts to mimic the yellow stamen of the flower. I used a combination of dark purple & royal blue (also Shany 120 palette) on my outer v to mimic the royal purple on the tips of the crocus petals & matte camel (WNW Vanity) to highlight my brow bone.

OTHER DETAILS… I used CoverGirl single e/s in Smolder to define my eyebrows. L’Oreal Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black on my eyelashes. I defined my upper lashline with Wet n Wild cream eyeliner in black. On my waterline I used Wet n Wild eyeliner pencil in lilac & followed it up with more royal blue e/s (Shany 120 palette).

LIPS:¬†Carmex¬†+ L’Oreal H.I.P. lip gloss in Inviting

CHEEKS: Wet N Wild Blush in ‚ÄúHeather Silk‚ÄĚ

FOTD: Inspired by Ariel

12 Jun

When I was a little girl, I was obsessed with The Little Mermaid! I had my own VHS to take to daycare so we could watch it after school & everything! My friend’s 4 yr old niece is having an “Under the Sea” themed birthday party this summer, so I asked her what child born since the millennium knows about Ariel & friends?!? She told me that Disney re-released this movie. Ummm…YAY! I’m elated at the prospect of showing one of my childhood favorites to my (future) children on DVD… although my mother does still have that old VHS, just in case! LOL

You know those days when you walk into your closet & feel like you have nothing to wear? Well this was one of those days for me. When I’m feeling this way, I usually end up doing my makeup first, then choosing an outfit & that’s exactly what I did today. The base color for this FOTD is a frost-finish, iridescent, aqua-colored eyeshadow by CoverGirl called Aqua Paradise. The green/aqua blue color shift of this shadow reminds me of fish scales (or in Ariel’s case, mermaid scales). To mimic her ginger-toned hair, I mixed orange & red eyeshadows from my Shany 120 palette & applied that to my crease. Keep reading for the rest of the details…

PRIMER: Coastal Scents Shadow Worx Matte e/s primer

BASE: NYX Jumbo Pencil in Rocky Mountain Green (lower lid)

SHADOW: I covered my entire lower lid in Aqua Paradise (CoverGirl).  I applied matte orange & red e/s from the Shany 120 palette to my crease, dark brown to deepen my outer v, matte camel on my browbone & matte off white to highlight my tearducts (all from the WNW Vanity palette).

OTHER DETAILS… I used CoverGirl single e/s in Smolder to define my eyebrows. L’Oreal Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black on my eyelashes. I defined my upper lashline with WetnWild cream eyeliner in black. On my waterline I used WetNWild eyeliner pencil in turquoise & turquoise-colored e/s from Shany 120 palette.

FOTD: Forever Sunshine

10 Jun

During our excursion to Panama City, mom & I raided the local Bath & Body Works (#DontJudgeUs!). They were having their buy 3, get 3 free sale, so¬†we bought a bunch of assorted smell-goods. My new favorite scent is Forever Sunshine. Per bbw.com it has notes of golden apricot, pink peonies and a hint of praline… IDK what any of this means, to me it just smells pretty ūüôā

Tip of the day: If you wanna try new colors,¬†look to the packaging¬†of items in your cabinet/pantry for inspiration. Companies pay scientists & marketing firms millions of dollars to¬†decide what¬†colors will make consumers buy more of¬†their product. Although it may seem unorthodox to you, it can be really pretty. Who knew¬†tangerine & fuschia would be cute together? LOL… ENJOY!

PRIMER: Coastal Scents Shadow Worx Matte e/s primer

BASE: Copper-colored cream shadow (inner) & raspberry-colored cream shadow (outer) from Claire’s 24 palette

SHADOW: I covered the inner half of my eyelid in matte tangerine orange (Shany 120 palette).  Then I applied matte fucshia to the outer half of my eye & purple to darken the outer v (also Shany 120). I used matte camel to highlight my brow bone (Vanity).

OTHER DETAILS… I used CoverGirl single e/s in Smolder to define my eyebrows. L’Oreal Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black on my eyelashes. I defined my upper lashline with WetnWild cream eyeliner in black. On my waterline I used WetNWild eyeliner pencil in turquoise & followed it with turquoise-colored e/s (Shany 120).

FACE: Estee Lauder pressed powder in Deep (05)

CHEEKS: Black Radiance sheer finish blush in Soft Honey (8305B)

LIPS: Carmex + ‚ÄúStop Violence in the Home‚ÄĚ lip gloss¬†by The Body Shop

My curls are back  with a vengeance!!! *BAM*

FOTD: Throwback Brights

9 Jun

¬†80s flashback moment! Did your mama dress you in neon brights, like mine did? LOL… Those were the days¬†*sighs* BTW, these are the last pics of my coil out… Day 6 is all I can stand! Video of my (wet) roller set coming soon… ENJOY!

PRIMER: Coastal Scents Shadow Worx Matte e/s primer

BASE: NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk (lower lid) & Purple (crease)

SHADOW: I covered my entire lower lid, including my tearducts, in matte light green e/s (Shany 120 palette).  I drew a line around my crease & outer v with the purple NYX pencil. I took a crease brush & blended the line, then I added bright purple e/s to my crease (also Shany). I used matte camel (WNW Vanity palette) on my browbone.

OTHER DETAILS… I used CoverGirl single e/s in Smolder to define my eyebrows. L’Oreal Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black on my eyelashes. I defined my upper lashline with WetnWild cream eyeliner in black. On my waterline I used WetNWild eyeliner pencil in turquoise & teal-colored eyeshadow from the Retro Chic palette (8805) by Black Radiance.

FACE: Estee Lauder pressed powder in Deep (05)

CHEEKS: Black Radiance sheer finish blush in Soft Honey (8305B) on the apples of my cheeks

LIPS: Carmex + L’Oreal HIP lip gloss in Inviting

FOTD: Sunshine on a cloudy day

7 Jun

No! I haven’t changed my hair (yet)… these pics were taken about¬†2 weeks ago. I was on canary yellow extra hard that week. I love this FOTD¬†because it’s a break from the norm; using a light color (yellow)¬†on the center of my eyelid & a darker color (gray)¬†on the tearducts & outer v. It was a PIECE OF CAKE, so¬†I strongly encourage you to try this look!!! ūüôā

PRIMER: Coastal Scents Shadow Worx Matte e/s primer

BASE: NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk

SHADOW: I applied Twilight (by Ulta) to the inside & outside of my lower lid. In the center of my eyelid (right over the iris of my eyes) I applied canary yellow mica powder (by Coastal Scents). Then I applied matte camel from my crease to my brow bone (WNW Vanity palette).

OTHER DETAILS… I used CoverGirl single e/s in Smolder to define my eyebrows. I applied L’Oreal Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black to my eyelashes (& curled them). I defined my upper lashline with WetnWild cream eyeliner in black. On my waterline, I used WetNWild eyeliner pencil in black.

FACE: Estee Lauder pressed powder in Deep (05)

CHEEKS: Black Radiance sheer finish blush in Soft Honey (8305B) on the apples of my cheeks

FOTD: Lust vs. Greed

6 Jun

This high-contrast, smoky eye is one of a bajillion¬†possible color combinations from the Wet N Wild Color Icon collection. As the title of this FOTD indicates, today I used the “Lust” & “Greed” palettes. Although I used pale pink from the lust palette on my inner eye, it translates as white, with a pink cast (a cool side effect of using cream eyeshadow as a base for your powdered eyeshadow).

BTW, my coil out is still going strong (Day 5)! I did have to re-coil a few hairs at the nape of my neck last night (that hair is extremely prone to tangling), but I’m gonna let the coil out ride for a few more days. In other news, I miss my big, voluminous curls ūüė¶ *sheds a lonesome tear*

PRIMER: Coastal Scents Shadow Worx Matte e/s primer

BASE: NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk (inner) & Black Bean (outer)

SHADOW: I covered the inner half of my eyelid in matte light pink (Lust).  Then I applied sparkly graphite gray to the outer half of my eye (Lust) & matte black (Greed) to darken the outer v. I applied matte peach to my brow bone (Greed) & used matte light pink to highlight my tearducts & the arches of my eyebrows (Lust).

OTHER DETAILS… I used CoverGirl single e/s in Smolder to define my eyebrows. L’Oreal Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black on my eyelashes. On my waterline I used WetNWild eyeliner pencil in turquoise & teal-colored eyeshadow from the Retro Chic palette (8805) by Black Radiance.
