FOTD: Smoky blue with a twist…

5 Nov

This look is very similar to the Starry Eyed Girl FOTD. I was really disappointed by Vicky’s Secret e/s I used in that look, so I wanted to try it again using different products. Besides, I needed to use my NEW Wet N Wild Pride palette (from the September Beauty Acquisitions video). I plan to do a few looks with it before I give a formal product review. So far it’s good, but I’m not  surprised; WNW Cosmetics really stepped their game up with the Color Icon collection. I hope y’all are in the mood for some blues & greens… LEGGO!

PRIMER: NYX HD e/s base

BASE: Grayish-blue cream shadow (via Claire’s 24 palette) & NYX Jumbo pencil in Yellow on my tearducts

SHADOW: I covered my lower eyelid & crease (excluding my tearducts) in shimmery navy blue e/s from the Wet N Wild Pride palette. I used Canary Yellow mica powder by Coastal Scents to brighten my tearducts &  cerulean blue (satin finish) e/s from the Black Radiance Retro Chic palette to brighten the center of my eyelids. Then I applied matte camel e/s to my brow bone (WNW Vanity palette) & matte black from the WNW Greed palette to darken my outer v.

OTHER DETAILS… I used CoverGirl single e/s in Smolder to define my eyebrows. Maybelline Volume Express “Falsies” Mascara in Blackest Black on my eyelashes. I defined my upper lashline with Wet n Wild cream eyeliner in black & my waterline with Ruby Kisses HD gel liner in teal.

CHEEKS: I used Ulta single e/s in “Sparks” on the hollows of my cheeks &  CoverGirl e/s in Meltdown Mauve on the apples of my cheeks.

LIPS: Wet N Wild Mega Last Lip color in Sand Storm (913C) + Maybelline Shiny-Licious Lip Gloss in Peach Sorbet

FACE: Estee Lauder pressed powder in Deep (05)

Stay tuned for a video tutorial of this look…

FOTD: 27 & loving it!

24 Oct

This weekend my bestie took me to Sephora & bought me some awesome goodies! Of course I had to debut at least one of them in my birthday FOTD… Sephora cream liner in Electric Teal!

PRIMER: NYX HD e/s base

BASE: Copper colored cream shadow from Claire’s 24 palette

SHADOW: I covered my entire lower eyelid in a shimmery orange e/s from the Shany Cosmetics 120 palette. Then I used matte brown e/s from the Coffee Shop e/s quad by CoverGirl to darken my crease & outer v. Finally I used matte peach e/s, from the Wet N Wild Greed palette, to highlight my brow bone & tearducts. Continue reading

FOTD: Chameleon Glitter

21 Oct

Today’s FOTD was inspired by QueenB’s MAC Delft, Blue Brown & Spiritualize makeup look, however I used the MAC dupes to create my look.

Base:

MAC paintpot in Delft

DUPE: Clair's 24 Cream Eyeshadow palette

The entire cream shadow palette costs $13 @ Claire’s Boutique Continue reading

Claire’s 24 cream eyeshadow palette
  • Price: 5 out of 5
  • Packaging: 4 out of 5
  • Efficacy: 5 out of 5
  • Overall rating: 5 stars

My comments:  I bought this palette for about $13 at my local Claire’s Boutique. Yes! Claire’s sells makeup, in addition to their fabulous array of accessories 😉 I cannot attest to the goodness of these shadows on their own. I only use them as opaque bases for powder e/s. Dare I say, Claire’s cream shadows give my e/s more longevity than some of my NYX jumbo pencils! I’m talking 12-14 hours! #POW! Continue reading

FOTD: the Starry-eyed girl

20 May

This is my version of a blue smoky eye. It’s kinda on the steel blue/ dark gray side with both metallic sheen & glitter particles (yeah, I was doin’ the most). Today I used this sparkly navy blue e/s that I purchased @ Victoria’s Secret one day when I was bra shopping with my besties. I walked past the VS makeup display & I couldn’t leave empty-handed. I’m all about glitter & sparkles, so I was sold on that aspect alone. This e/s however, lacks the staying power of several cheaper brands *WHOMP WHOMP* BTW… my soul is vexed by the fact that you can’t really see the sparkles in these pics (but I promise you it was there)!

My tips for doing a smoky eye are as follows:

  1. Use a dark base (black, blue, gray or purple).
  2. Keep light and/or pastel colors restricted to your tearducts & brow bone.
  3. Keep the color below your crease & use something neutral under your brow (or risk looking like Mimi from the Drew Carey Show… GOOGLE IT!).
  4. Use mascara or false lashes, so that your lashes don’t get lost in the mix.
  5. DO NOT neglect the area under your eye! Put some black, gray or blue eyeliner on your waterline. You can even use a pencil or liner brush to apply e/s under your eyes if you’re going the extra mile!
  6. If you have fallout from all the dark colors you’ve applied to your eyelid, brush it away, then add some concealer + pressed powder under your eye… DARK CIRCLES are no one’s friend!

PRIMER: Coastal Scents Shadow Worx Matte e/s primer

BASE: Cream shadow from the Claire’s 24 palette in Steel blue

SHADOW: On my tearducts I used a matte off white (WNW Vanity). I blended that into Victoria’s Secret Silky Sparkle in “Spin” (a sparkly grayish-blue) on the center of my lower lid, then I used shimmery navy blue from the L’Oreal Studio Secrets Professional Color Smokes in “Cobalt Smokes” to deepen my crease/ outer v. I also used matte off white (WNW Vanity) to highlight my brow bone.

OTHER DETAILS… I used CoverGirl single e/s in Smolder to define my eyebrows. L’Oreal Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black on my eyelashes. And that’s it! I was running late this morning & completely forgot my eyeliner… it looks so naked under my eye 😦

LIPS: Carmex & L’Oreal HIP lip gloss in Inviting

CHEEKS: Ulta single e/s in Sparks in the hollows of my cheeks & Black Radiance sheer finish blush in Soft Honey (8305B) on the apples of my cheeks

FACE: Estee Lauder pressed powder in Deep (05)

  Hold the phone!

What happened here? It looks like I got into a fight & lost, LOL. This e/s didn’t make it past lunch with both a primer & cream base, THAT constitutes EPIC failure in my book… On to the next one!

FOTD: Captivated by coquelicot

19 May

Champ de coquelicots

Captivated by WHAT?! I know, I know… lemmie explain. I’m a makeup junkie on the outside & a word nerd on the inside. I have a healthy vocabulary & don’t often learn new words, so it’s SUPER EXCITING to me when I do. In case you hadn’t figured it out, my word of the day is coquelicot!!! *Claps hands & does dance* Coquelicot (pronounced kah-klee-ko) is an orangey shade of red that is named after the french word for “poppy”… awesome, huh? I knew you’d like it 🙂

PRIMER: Coastal Scents Shadow Worx Matte e/s primer

BASE: Bronze-colored cream shadow from the Claire’s 24 palette

SHADOW: On my tear ducts I used a matte golden orange from the Shany Cosmetics 120 e/s palette. I blended that into an orangey-red (Shany 120) on the center of my lower lid, then I used matte dark brown (WNW Vanity) to deepen my crease & outer v. I also used matte off white (WNW Vanity) to highlight my brow bone.

OTHER DETAILS… I used CoverGirl single e/s in Smolder to define my eyebrows. L’Oreal Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black on my eyelashes. I defined my upper lash line with WetnWild Cream eyeliner in Black. For my waterline, I drew a thin line using a turquoise eyeliner pencil (WNW), then I topped it with aqua eyeshadow (Shany 120). Didja notice that I curled my lashes today? 🙂

LIPS: Carmex & L’Oreal HIP lip gloss in Inviting

CHEEKS: Ulta single e/s in Sparks

FACE: Estee Lauder pressed powder in Deep (05)

FOTD: Can I get a WDE?!

13 May

In case you hadn’t noticed, I’ve got school spirit today!!! I’ve been wanting to do an orange & blue look for awhile now… so I figured “cut crease week” was the perfect time to try it! This FOTD is dedicated my illustrious alma mater, Auburn University. I think it turned out pretty well… Hope you enjoy 🙂

PRIMER: Coastal Scents Shadow Worx Matte e/s primer

BASE: Copper-colored cream eyeshadow from Claire’s Cream e/s palette (on my lower lid) & NYX jumbo pencil in purple (on my crease)

SHADOW: I used a shimmery orange e/s (from Shany 120 palette) on my lower eyelid. I used matte peach (also Shany) to highlight my tear ducts. I drew a line around my crease & outer v with the purple NYX pencil. I took a crease brush & blended the line, then I added a shimmery navy blue from the L’Oreal Studio Secrets Professional Color Smokes e/s Quad in Cobalt Smokes to my crease & outer v. I used matte camel (WNW Vanity palette) on my browbone.

OTHER DETAILS… I used CoverGirl single e/s in Smolder to define my eyebrows. L’Oreal Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black on my eyelashes. I defined my upper lashline & waterline with WetnWild cream eyeliner in black (BTW I’m loving my new Ardell brush).

LIPS: Carmex + Estee Lauder lip gloss in Rose

CHEEKS: Black Radiance sheer finish blush in Soft Honey (8305B)

FACE: Estee Lauder pressed powder in Deep (05)

Whatchu know bout dem Tigers?!

FOTD: Frenetically fuschia

4 May

Happy Hump Day, Glams! This is one of my favorite faces of the day so far & I could not wait to share it with you!!! I used some obscure products today just for kicks & giggles. Hope you enjoy!

PRIMER: Coastal Scents Shadow Worx Matte e/s primer

BASE: Raspberry-colored cream eyeshadow (from Claire’s Cream e/s palette)… Trust me I know what you’re thinking… Claire’s Boutique sells wearable eyeshadow?!?! I was thinking the same thing before I bought it, but I actually like it! Product reviews to come…

SHADOW: I covered my entire lower lid in matte fuschia e/s & darkened my outer v with matte dark purple e/s (both from the Shany Cosmetics 120 palette). Then I used both matte white & pastel pink (also Shany) to highlight my tearducts & matte camel (from the Wet N Wild Vanity palette) from my crease all the way to my brow bone.

OTHER DETAILS… I used CoverGirl single e/s in Smolder to define my eyebrows. L’Oreal Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black on my eyelashes. I defined my waterline with a Wet N Wild Eyeliner Pencil in green & added a bright grassy green e/s (Shany) directly on top of the line using a pencil brush for added drama.

LIPS: Carmex + “Stop Violence in the Home”… Yes that’s the actual name of this “high shine” lip gloss. It was part of a promotional campaign by The Body Shop. It’s a sheer irridescent pink with pink sparkles.  Don’t you just LOVE it?!? I checked their website & apparently this gloss was a limited edition, unless you bought some in 2010, you won’t be able to try it 😦

CHEEKS: Wet N Wild Blush in “Heather Silk” (on the apples of my cheeks)

FACE: Estee Lauder pressed powder in Deep (05)
