FOTD: Hello Kitty

21 Feb

Hey Glams!

My friend Nisha suggested this color palette a few months ago. It’s been awhile since I did a cartoon-themed look, so I figured February was the perfect time to try a Hello Kitty look. The little girl in me wanted to don Fuchsia Fever lipstick that day, but the adult in me decided to play it safe & go with Trendy Mauve, so that way cut crease can get the attention it deserves, LOL! Enjoy…

PRIMER: NYX HD e/s base

BASE: NYX Jumbo Pencil in Milk

SHADOW: I applied matte white e/s (from the Wet N Wild Pride palette) over the inner two-thirds of my lower eyelid. Then I applied matte hot pink (from the Shany 120 palette) to my outer v area. Then I went back in with a lighter shade of pink to help blend the hot pink into the white e/s.  To create the cut crease, I used my pencil brush to draw a line of matte black e/s along my crease (WNW Greed palette). I used my Sonia Kashuk large crease brush to blend the black into matte peach e/s on my brow bone (also WNW Greed).

OTHER DETAILS… I used CoverGirl single e/s in Smolder to define my eyebrows & L’Oreal Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black on my eyelashes. I defined the inner rim of my waterline with Wet N Wild eyeliner in white & used Wet N Wild cream liner in black on my upper lashline & outer waterline.

CHEEKS: Ulta single e/s in “Sparks” on the hollows of my cheeks & Black Radiance sheer finish blush in Soft Honey on the apples.

FACE: Estee Lauder pressed powder in Deep (05)

LIPS: Lancome Color Design lipstick in Trendy Mauve + CO Bigelow lip gloss in Pink Mint

Product Review

Price:            1   2   3   4   5   6   7    ●   9

Packaging:   1   2   3   4   ●   6   7   8   9

Efficacy:       1   2   3   4   5   ●   7   8   9

        Overall score: 6

The Wet N Wild Spoiled Brat trio consists of a frost-finish silver, a matte-finish black w/ silver glitter & a magenta-colored e/s in a satin finish.  Although I did not personally purchase this palette (it was a gift), it only costs $3! And that’s the regular price… what a steal! I have nothing good or bad to say about the packaging (hence the score of 5). In terms of efficacy I could only muster a 6. Why? You can get sparkly black or frosty silver e/s just about anywhere, but the promise of pink is what draws most people to purchase this palette. Ironically, the pink one was the poorest performing shadow of this trio. It’s less pigmented than the other shadows, it shows up darker than it appears in the pan & it has a lot of fallout during application. I’m not saying that it’s not worth buying… just don’t expect to be amazed by this pink. The black & silver e/s are both very pigmented, so I would recommend this palette. However if you already own these three colors there’s no need purchase Spoiled Brat.

Weekend shenanigans & FOTD: All kinds of devilment

19 Sep

Hey Glams! I hope y’all had as good a weekend as I did! I kicked it with my sorors from Alabama State University. The university hosted a block party Friday night to kickoff construction on the new Hornet Stadium & on Saturday we tailgated w/ my frat brothers for ASU’s first home game… GREAT FUN!!!

…one of my friends gave birth to this beautiful baby 🙂

…and on a somber note, Auburn lost to Clemson *sniff sniff* But I still love my Tigers! WDE BABY!!!

CONFESSION: I did this FOTD about 2 and a half months ago, but reality television programming & general laziness prevented me from showing it to you. Continue reading

FOTD: Blackstar

8 Aug

At your request, I FINALLY attempted a black smoky eye. I’m not gonna lie, I thought about it long & hard before I tried it… fear of the unknown, I suppose. In the end I’m glad I did it, even if I am a bit freaked out by my own reflection in this makeup. LMBO! This is a harsh look, so it’s best suited for a night out on the town. Oh and be sure to get a good night’s rest & or use eye drops to reduce the appearance of redness. The “recipe” actually calls for matte black, but I live for sparkle, so I had to keep it Sham-ly 🙂 Ya feel me? ENJOY!

PRIMER: NYX HD e/s base

BASE: NYX Jumbo eye pencil in Milk (tearducts) & Black Bean (the rest of the lower eyelid)

SHADOW: I covered my lower eyelid & crease (except for my tearducts) in sparkly black e/s (WNW Greed palette).  I applied matte peach e/s to my brow bone (WNW Greed palette) & used sparkly off-white e/s to highlight my tearducts (WNW Lust palette).

OTHER DETAILS… I used CoverGirl single e/s in Smolder to define my eyebrows. L’Oreal Collagen Mascara in Blackest Black on my eyelashes. On my waterline I used WetNWild eyeliner pencil in white. I also used a pencil brush to smudge sparkly black e/s around the outer edge of my eyelid.

FACE: Estee Lauder pressed powder in Deep (05)

CHEEKS: Wet N Wild Blush in “Heather Silk”

LIPS: Carmex + Estee Lauder lip gloss in Rose

FOTD: Lightning n Thunder

ShamIamGlam’s 100th post! YAY *throws confetti*

“Alabama’s generally warm, humid climate results from its mid-latitude location and proximity to the Gulf of Mexico. This location also produces the often turbulent weather patterns that regularly bring tornadoes and hurricanes to the state.” – Phillip Chaney, Auburn University (encyclopediaofalabama.org)

In case you were wondering, we have had scattered thunderstorms EVERY DAY THIS WEEK *whomp whomp* This is why I’ve been reppin’ the wash-n-go/curly fro so hard… On to the makeup 🙂

PRIMER: NYX High Definition e/s base

BASE: NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil in Yellow

SHADOW: I covered the inner two-thirds of my lower eyelid in a matte greenish-yellow, then I went in with a pale, matte green that was 1-2 shades darker than the yellow & applied it to my outer v (both e/s are from the Shany 120 palette). Then I used matte black from Wet N Wild Greed palette to darken & contour the crease & outer v. I used matte peach e/s (also WNW Greed) on my brow bone.

OTHER DETAILS… I used CoverGirl single e/s in Smolder to define my eyebrows. Maybelline Volume Express “Falsies” Mascara in Blackest Black on my eyelashes. I defined my upper lashline & waterline with Ruby Kisses HD gel eyeliner in teal.

LIPS: Carmex + Estee Lauder lip gloss in Rose
