Hair update

26 Feb

This time last year, I was roller setting my hair using 1″ diameter rollers (pink) in the front & 1.5″ (orangey) in the back…

Then my hair grew out some, so I graduated to all 1.5″ diameter rollers (yellow & orangey) w/ a few 1.75″ (peach) sprinkled here & there…

I didn’t have enough 1.75″ rollers to cover my entire head, so the other day I went to the BSS & bought a few more. They didn’t have any peach ones left, so I bought 2 packs of purple ($2 for a pack of 6 rollers). My hair is even longer, so I decided it set everything on the jumbo rollers… After my hair was dry, I flat ironed it & threw the rollers back in to preserve some degree of body & curl. Then I wrapped it & tied it w/ a scarf. This is how it looked when I set free…

My thoughts? Roller setting was & is still MY THANG! It’s my favorite & most trusted hair move. But I’ve noticed that it’s taking longer & longer for my hair to dry these days.Β Barring any excessive damage/breakage, it will eventually become too long to style in this manner. It makes me sad just thinking about it, but I guess I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it…

Thanks Jazzy! What’s your go-to style?

Yeah, I think that’s why I don’t want to even try roller setting! I imagine my hair going over the ends and being thick as heck around the rollers just from the length and then trying to use thin sections and not having enough surface area on my head to accommodate all of the rollers. Let’s not even talk about the drying time!!

But ditto … you have mastered the roller set girl. It is always so beautiful!! I love your chocolatey highlights too!! They are soo pretty!!

You’re right & I am sooo sad πŸ˜₯ Isn’t 1.75″ is the biggest size? Whenever I use anything smaller than 1.5″ it ALL looks the same (shirley temple curls). Having said that, your non rolling makes so much sense to me now… *sniff sniff* The smaller rollers were more comfortable to sleep in, so I could air dry my hair from (9pm – 6am). That’s no longer possible… fortunately there’s the hooded dryer, but even that takes a long time to dry. I think the mass of rollers impedes the air flow or something. Maybe I need a soft bonnet dryer…?

I look up to your roller sets, they are awesome!!! You could sit under the dryer to cut down on drying time.

    • Sham February 27, 2012 at 6:35 am #

Honey I was under the dryer… LOL!

    • danielle February 27, 2012 at 6:36 am #

Never mind, I see from your video that you do sit under the dryer…

I finally started doing the rollerset thing! I will have to post pics! I’m on week 2 and have been using flexi rods on my dry hair to keeps my curls. They are actually comfortable to sleep in and only take me about 5 minutes to do! I’ll have to post some pics on my blog. But you were my inspiration for my rollersetting!

    • Sham February 27, 2012 at 11:05 am #

Yes, please do! Let me know when you post it so I can re-blog it here πŸ˜‰

girl this set is absolutely friggin fabulous! I wish my sets would look like this. My hair is more coarse than this so it takes a ridiculous amount of coaxing to get it anywhere near yours. This is why I mostly don’ t even try… 😦

    Again, beaurtiful! πŸ™‚

      Thanks Boo!

What about now? My roller sets look SOOO much better when its cold outside. Maybe you should revisit this winter… *HUGS*

Well Ms Glam, I finally have a roller set that I am proud of!!! After a couple of failures, I gave up for a while. Then I came across The Hair Rules products…voila, success!!! I can truly say that you make it look extremely easy, ma’am!! On my next attemp, I will use larger rollers to stretch my roots out to make them look smoother. Even though I have been natural for eight years, your tutorials have encouraged me to invest more in maintaining my own hair. Thank you ma’am! Keep the updates and tutorials coming!!!

IDK how I missed your comment, but THANKS NATHEIA! Keep the positivity flowing! πŸ™‚

You can get bigger rollers…I’ve seen 2” and 3” at the beauty supply.

Also, have you tried ponytail rollersets? I have the thickest 4b/4c hair and people ask if I got a perm. They also dry really fast (35 minutes).

I”m trying to track down those larger pink rollers-the largest ones I can find are 1″. Where did you get them? Thank you!

And if you could email me the name of YOUR source, I could call and see if they’d ship me some! I need them for a stage play πŸ™‚
