Another one bites the dust…

29 Dec

The Body Shop’s Macadamia Straightening Balm is one of my holy grail hair products. I discovered it last summer during a layover at Douglas International Airport in Charlotte. Did you know that the air in the airplane cabins is not only pressurized, but also humidified? I was about seven months into my transition to natural & Giovanni was looking a hot ham & cheese that day! Some sweet stranger recommended that I try this product. Her wig was “swanging” sans perm, so I decided to try it. As soon as I returned home, I added MSB to my roller set routine (along w/ thermal protection spray & leave-in conditioner) & we all lived happily ever after…

It took me a whole year to finish a five ounce bottle of this stuff. Extremely. Effective.  Earlier this year I re-stocked via Amazon.com & noticed that the price had jumped from $12 to $16… NO BUENO! There’s no Body Shop near my home, so I was willing to fork over the cash.

Fast forward to this afternoon… Erinn, a new member of the Glam Fam, informed me that she couldn’t find a bottle of MSB anywhere. What the…?! It’s not in stock on Amazon or The Body Shop’s official website. *cue waterworks* WHY LAWD, WHY? Yet another great product has gone the way of the dodo bird. If you must try it, you should know that I did find a bottle on eBay. If nothing changes between now & then, I will be auditioning straightening balms next summer… *DEEP SIGH*

I would like to add that this product doesn’t “straighten” my hair, but it does tame frizz & flyaways. I can definitley tell the difference when I roller set my hair sans MSB. I like it because has a light smell, does not have a greasy residue & doesn’t leave me feeling “producty”. Surely there’s a comparable product on the market somewhere… SUGGESTIONS?

Do you think the Chocolat stuff by Carol’s Daughter would be a good replacement? I’ve never tried it, but I think the description of the macadamia straightening balm is similar to the CD product.

Anyway, your roller sets are so fierce that you have me wanting to add a straightening balm to mine.

The body shop is having a sale (including discontinued items) and I’ve found a few bottles of MSB.

Whatchu say girl?! That’s awesome! I just went to their website to browse & discovered that there’s not a single Body Shop in the entire state of Alabama. Why do I even try? LOL
